Face Recognition
A growing body of research attests to the fact that the processes underlying object and face recognition are different, and that faces have a special significance. However, a large portion of this research focuses on the cognitive processes involved, with the aim of improving computerized face detection and recognition systems. A large amount of evidence from the human retina is made use of in human vision, making it very detailed, and usually accurate. Evidence from edges, corners, lines, bars, blobs, intensity, shape, texture, colour, and motion have been well utilized in vision research; however, contextual knowledge that is exploited in human vision has been to some extent neglected in vision research.

“In a cabinet of natural history, we become sensible of a certain occult recognition and sympathy in regard to the most unwieldy and eccentric forms of beast, fish, and insect.”
