Famous quotes containing the words artificial, visual and/or perception:

Merely external emancipation has made of the modern woman an artificial being.... Now, woman is confronted with the necessity of emancipating herself from emancipation, if she really desires to be free.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

For women ... bras, panties, bathing suits, and other stereotypical gear are visual reminders of a commercial, idealized feminine image that our real and diverse female bodies can’t possibly fit. Without these visual references, each individual woman’s body demands to be accepted on its own terms. We stop being comparatives. We begin to be unique.
    Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)

No one has ever seen a Republican mass meeting that was devoid of the perception of the ludicrous.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
