Visalia Rawhide - Casey Jones/Casey at The Bat

Casey Jones/Casey At The Bat

The Visalia Ballclub also keeps alive the tradition of Casey Jones, the main folklore hero of "Casey at the Bat" and the "Mudville Nine", even wearing the old-fashioned Mudville Nine uniforms once per season as part of a turn back the clock promotion.

However, the Mudville Nine is associated with Stockton, California where the other Cal League team, the Stockton Ports play.

Visalia is one of the 4 oldest cities of the Cal League, along with San Jose, California (the San Jose Giants/Bees); Modesto, California (the Modesto Nuts/A's) and the previous past in Lodi, California north of Stockton which goes back 70 years to 1941.

Famous quotes containing the words casey jones, casey and/or jones:

Poor Casey Jones he was all right,
He stuck by his duty both day an’ night,
    —Unknown. Casey Jones. . .

Oxford Book of Light Verse, The. W. H. Auden, ed. (1938)

Casey Jones, mounted to the cabin,
Casey Jones, throttle in his hand,
Casey Jones mounted to the cabin,
Took his farewell journey to the Promised Land.
    —Unknown. Casey Jones (l. 49–52)

There used to be two kinds of kisses. First when girls were kissed and deserted; second, when they were engaged. Now there’s a third kind, where the man is kissed and deserted. If Mr. Jones of the nineties bragged he’d kissed a girl, everyone knew he was through with her. If Mr. Jones of 1919 brags the same everyone knows it’s because he can’t kiss her any more. Given a decent start any girl can beat a man nowadays.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)
