Notable Residents

Sedona legend Helen Varner Vanderbilt Frye (1908–1979), who built the better-known House of Apache Fire (now part of Red Rock State Park) with her then-husband, TWA President Jack Frye, built another notable estate in the Village of Oak Creek, "Sky Fires", in what is now the Sedona Golf Resort. The house was badly damaged in a 1983 fire, and was later demolished.

Famous quotes containing the words notable and/or residents:

Every notable advance in technique or organization has to be paid for, and in most cases the debit is more or less equivalent to the credit. Except of course when it’s more than equivalent, as it has been with universal education, for example, or wireless, or these damned aeroplanes. In which case, of course, your progress is a step backwards and downwards.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)

Most of the folktales dealing with the Indians are lurid and romantic. The story of the Indian lovers who were refused permission to wed and committed suicide is common to many places. Local residents point out cliffs where Indian maidens leaped to their death until it would seem that the first duty of all Indian girls was to jump off cliffs.
—For the State of Iowa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
