Victorian Model Solar Vehicle Challenge

The Victorian Model Solar Vehicle Challenge is a competition held annually at Scienceworks in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The challenge gives school age children a chance to design and build a car or boat, and more recently a Mars Rover, that operates solely on solar power. It is run by MSV, a voluntary organisation created to administer the challenge. The 2010 event (Car and Junior Boat Divisions) was held on Saturday 16 October, and Sunday 17 October.

Famous quotes containing the words victorian, model, solar, vehicle and/or challenge:

Conscience was the barmaid of the Victorian soul. Recognizing that human beings were fallible and that their failings, though regrettable, must be humoured, conscience would permit, rather ungraciously perhaps, the indulgence of a number of carefully selected desires.
    —C.E.M. (Cyril Edwin Mitchinson)

I’d like to be the first model who becomes a woman.
    Lauren Hutton (b. 1944)

Lincoln becomes the American solar myth, the chief butt of American credulity and sentimentality.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

The woman may serve as a vehicle for the rapist expressing his rage against a world that gives him pain—because he is poor, or oppressed, or mad, or simply human. Then what of her? We have waded in the swamp of compassion for him long enough.
    Robin Morgan (b. 1941)

Do your children view themselves as successes or failures? Are they being encouraged to be inquisitive or passive? Are they afraid to challenge authority and to question assumptions? Do they feel comfortable adapting to change? Are they easily discouraged if they cannot arrive at a solution to a problem? The answers to those questions will give you a better appraisal of their education than any list of courses, grades, or test scores.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
