AFL Victoria Development League / AFL Victoria VFL Football Academy
As from the beginning of the 2012 season, the former VFL Reserves competition was replaced with the AFL Victoria Development League, a move that coincided with the introduction of the AFL Victoria Development League which provides development opportunities for up to 25 selected VFL players per year.
All current VFL teams enter a reserves team in the Development League.
