Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration

The Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration in Thorapadi, Vellore city, is the first of its kind in India and a model of regional co-operation; it is sponsored by the four southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The institute was inaugurated on 1 October 1979, and pioneered the preparation of personnel for prison and correctional administration. Its aim is to reintegrate offenders into mainstream society. The academy was formerly known as the Regional Institute of Correctional Administration (RICA).
