Vectorial Addition Chain - Addition Sequence

An addition sequence for the set of integer S ={n0, ...,nr-1} is an addition chain v that contains every element of S.

For example, an addition sequence computing

{47,117,343,499}

is

(1,2,4,8,10,11,18,36,47,55,91,109,117,226,343,434,489,499).

It's possible to find addition sequence from vectorial addition chains and vice versa, so they are in a sense dual.

Famous quotes containing the words addition and/or sequence:

    But the best read naturalist who lends an entire and devout attention to truth, will see that there remains much to learn of his relation to the world, and that it is not to be learned by any addition or subtraction or other comparison of known quantities, but is arrived at by untaught sallies of the spirit, by a continual self-recovery, and by entire humility.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    It isn’t that you subordinate your ideas to the force of the facts in autobiography but that you construct a sequence of stories to bind up the facts with a persuasive hypothesis that unravels your history’s meaning.
    Philip Roth (b. 1933)
