Vadamattam
Vadamattam is a small agricultural based revenue village on the banks of the river “Keerthiman” (branch river of Cavery) in the Kudavasal taluk of Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The village is located next to S.Puthur and Konerirajapuram on Kumbakonam - Karikal road i.e. 23 km from Kumbakonam Town (Bus & Train Terminus). The village is liked by road and frequent bus/taxi/auto services are available from Kumbaknoam, Mayiladuthuri, Aduthurai and Thiruvarur towns. Konerirajapuram has post office, (PIN 62201) and commercial bank and a historical place which was ruled by cholas and they constructed a big siva temple (UMA MAHESWARER / SUYAMBU NATARAJAR'' (ASIA'S BIGGEST STATUATE)there. The origin of vadamattam is derived from vadam-muttum (the end of a thick string which is used to pull a big chariot). Immediately after crossing the river bridge of Keerthiman (Konerirajapuram), we step into the village of Vadamattam panchayat'(administrative) which is under Vayalur region. The village is fully dependent on agricultural economy as it is in the heartland of Cauvery delta region. Many small Hindu temples dot the village of which some are well maintained. The village is surrounded by many small villages like paravakari, vayalur, kalaparakaram, sivanaragaram, poongudi, koneirajaouram, mustagudi, karuveli, etc. The village has a good number of other religious folks like Muslims and Christians who are living very cordially and work for the prosperous of the land. Major folks are vellalars who does agriculture and others are goldsmiths, carpenters, potters,nayudus, chettiyars (merchants) and muthaliyars (weavers).
