Mountains

Uva's symbolic mountain is Namunukula which stands tallest among the mountain range surrounding the Badulla town. One can get spectacular views of Welimada basin, Katharagama and Hambantota beach from Namunukula peak on a clear day. The views of sun rise and sun set are magnificent too.

Haputale mountain range has its tallest, peak Kirigalpottha. Haputale-Beragala gap gives a splendid view of the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces on a clear day.

Famous quotes containing the word mountains:

    Nelse McLeod: Faith can move mountains Milt, but it can’t beat a faster draw. There’s only three men I know with his kind of speed—one’s dead, the other’s me, and the third is Cole Thornton.
    Cole Thornton: There’s a fourth.
    McLeod: Which one are you?
    Thornton: I’m Thornton.
    Leigh Brackett (1915–1978)

    The mountains look on Marathon—
    And Marathon looks on the sea;
    And musing there an hour alone,
    I dreamed that Greece might still be free;
    For standing on the Persians’ grave,
    I could not deem myself a slave.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

    And open field, through which the pathway wound,
    And homeward led my steps. Magnificent
    The morning rose, in memorable pomp,
    Glorious as e’er I had beheld—in front,
    The sea lay laughing at a distance; near,
    The solid mountains shone, bright as the clouds,
    Grain-tinctured, drenched in empyrean light;
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)
