Famous quotes containing the words searching for, searching and/or survivors:

It was when “reporters” became “journalists” and when “objectivity” gave way to “searching for truth,” that an aura of distrust and fear arose around the New Journalist.
    Georgie Anne Geyer (b. 1935)

Our graves that hide us from the searching sun
Are like drawn curtains when the play is done.
Thus march we, playing, to our latest rest,
Only, we die in earnest—that’s no jest.
    Sir Walter Raleigh (1552?–1618)

I want to celebrate these elms which have been spared by the plague, these survivors of a once flourishing tribe commemorated by all the Elm Streets in America. But to celebrate them is to be silent about the people who sit and sleep underneath them, the homeless poor who are hauled away by the city like trash, except it has no place to dump them. To speak of one thing is to suppress another.
    Lisel Mueller (b. 1924)
