Real User ID
The real UID (ruid
) and real GID (rgid
) identify the real owner of the process and affect the permissions for sending signals. A process without superuser privilege can signal another process only if the sender’s real UID matches with the real UID of the receiver. Since child processes inherit the credentials from the parent, they can signal each other.

Famous quotes containing the words real and/or user:
“It is not quite safe to send out a venture in this kind, unless yourself go supercargo. Where a man goes, there he is; but the slightest virtue is immovable,it is real estate, not personal; who would keep it, must consent to be bought and sold with it.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“A worker may be the hammers master, but the hammer still prevails. A tool knows exactly how it is meant to be handled, while the user of the tool can only have an approximate idea.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
