Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, (born 1923) is a Portuguese professor of literature, a literary critic and a fiction writer, winner of many literary prizes. He was born in 1923 in Lisbon, Portugal, but spent most of his childhood near Moura, in Alentejo, the Southern region of Portugal. From his youth on he became close to the Portuguese Communist Party.
