Urbana High School (Maryland) - About

About

Urbana is one of ten high schools in the Frederick County Public Schools system of Frederick County, Maryland. The school holds a high reputation for its excellence in academics and athletics. Urbana's mission statement includes the following: to provide a safe and supportive learning environment and to provide a rich selection of challenging opportunities to develop lifelong learners and responsible citizens. Urbana maintains that the students, staff, parents, and community are partners in the educational process. "United by High Standards," Urbana High School empowers students to achieve their full potential and make a positive difference in their local and global communities.

Urbana's school year is divided into two ninety-day semesters, each split into two grading periods. Urbana operates on a block schedule with four ninety-minute blocks each day. Students may earn up to four credits per semester, totaling eight by the end of the year. It is therefore possible to complete, for example, both French 3 and 4 or Calculus AB and BC within the same school year. It is also possible to take additional courses online through the Frederick County Virtual School during the regular school year or summer.
