Urban Planning College (Ecole)

Urban Planning College (French: Ecole superieure d'amenagement et d'urbanisme) is a university in Ethiopia. It was founded in 1960s by the bilateral agreement between the French and Ethiopian Government.

It was intended to train higher technicians serving Ethiopian cities. In early years of its establishment French was medium of instruction, which later was taught as a credited course. The college was known for its unique multi-disciplined training in architecture, planning and civil engineering.

In 1996 it was incorporated within the Ethiopian Civil Service College and renamed as the Faculty of urban studies. Since then the faculty has organized itself under Ethiopian civil service college to continue its central role in the development of Ethiopian urban areas.

Famous quotes containing the words urban, planning and/or college:

I have misplaced the Van Allen belt
    the sewers and the drainage,
the urban renewal and the suburban centers.
I have forgotten the names of the literary critics.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Most literature on the culture of adolescence focuses on peer pressure as a negative force. Warnings about the “wrong crowd” read like tornado alerts in parent manuals. . . . It is a relative term that means different things in different places. In Fort Wayne, for example, the wrong crowd meant hanging out with liberal Democrats. In Connecticut, it meant kids who weren’t planning to get a Ph.D. from Yale.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)

I never feel so conscious of my race as I do when I stand before a class of twenty-five young men and women eager to learn about what it is to be black in America.
Claire Oberon Garcia, African American college professor. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B3 (July 27, 1994)
