Upperman High School - History

History

Upperman opened with an enrollment of 363 students from grades 9-12 on the campus of the former Baxter Seminary with Dave C. Huddleston as its first principal on August 22, 1959. It opened on the same campus of the former private school Baxter Seminary. In 1976, a new school was opened and enrollment was increased to include grades 7-12. On January 6, 2003, the new Upperman campus was opened for the first day of classes. Across town at the original Upperman, a new 5-8 grade Cornerstone Middle School also had its first day of classes.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

History, as an entirety, could only exist in the eyes of an observer outside it and outside the world. History only exists, in the final analysis, for God.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

America is, therefore the land of the future, where, in the ages that lie before us, the burden of the World’s history shall reveal itself. It is a land of desire for all those who are weary of the historical lumber-room of Old Europe.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
