In 1987, the school was the setting for "Echoes in the Darkness", a book written by Joseph Wambaugh detailing the murder of a teacher and her two children for insurance money, allegedly by the head of the English department and the former principal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echoes_in_the_Darkness). This was later converted into a made-for-TV movie and released with critical acclaim.
In 1994, four Upper Merion seniors (Ray M., Bill S., Jim M., and Terry K.) formed the punk/garage band The Housewives. Plans to tour King of Prussia were scrapped after they were denied a request to play in the backyard of another student's house. They released a single album onto cassette, The Housewives Anthology, and passed them out to anyone who wanted one. Thanks in part to their biggest fan, Frankie G., they are planning to reunite in 2013 and release a re-recorded vinyl edition of their only album.
In 2002, teacher Mr. Robert Lester was charged with sending pornographic e-mails to a supposed 12-year-old girl and boasted of sex with two teenage students and a teenage girl in his backyard pool (http://articles.philly.com/2002-12-20/news/25359593_1_e-mails-mails-high-school-teacher).

Famous quotes containing the words high school, upper, area, high and/or school:
“Someday soon, we hope that all middle and high school will have required courses in child rearing for girls and boys to help prepare them for one of the most important and rewarding tasks of their adulthood: being a parent. Most of us become parents in our lifetime and it is not acceptable for young people to be steeped in ignorance or questionable folklore when they begin their critical journey as mothers and fathers.”
—James P. Comer (20th century)
“The stately Homes of England,
How beautiful they stand,
To prove the upper classes
Have still the upper hand.”
—Noël Coward (18991973)
“... nothing is more human than substituting the quantity of words and actions for their character. But using imprecise words is very similar to using lots of words, for the more imprecise a word is, the greater the area it covers.”
—Robert Musil (18801942)
“The disinterest [of my two great-aunts] in anything that had to do with high society was such that their sense of hearing ... put to rest its receptor organs and allowed them to suffer the true beginnings of atrophy.”
—Marcel Proust (18711922)
“School divides life into two segments, which are increasingly of comparable length. As much as anything else, schooling implies custodial care for persons who are declared undesirable elsewhere by the simple fact that a school has been built to serve them.”
—Ivan Illich (b. 1926)
