Since 2002 Marco Lanzetta, the first Italian surgeon to perform a hand transplantation, has applied for the position of professor at the Medical Faculty, but has been repeatedly rejected by the selection committee, which selected two other surgeons. Gian Antonio Stella wrote in Corriere della Sera that the two surgeons selected appear to be less qualified, at least based on the five court sentences which took place since then. Mr Lanzetta won all five sentences, but the University keeps appointing the other candidates for the professorship.
