The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) is part of the National Cyber Security Division of the United States' Department of Homeland Security.
Formed in September 2003, US-CERT is a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and the public and private sectors, intended to coordinate the response to security threats from the Internet. As such, it releases information about current security issues, vulnerabilities and exploits via the National Cyber Alert System, and works with software vendors to create patches for security vulnerabilities.
US-CERT has responsibilities as the Federal Incident Management Center for the Federal Government and serves as the focal point for cybersecurity issues in the United States.
US-CERT has a division called the Control Systems Security Program, which deals with security related to industrial control systems. It has a team called the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT). In addition, it operates the Industrial Control Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG), which collaborates and coordinates with government agencies and the private sector to develop secure industrial control systems.
