Then the American flag was saluted. In general, in the United States people always salute the American flag.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)

Television is an excellent system when one has nothing to lose, as is the case with a nomadic and rootless country like the United States, but in Europe the affect of television is that of a bulldozer which reduces culture to the lowest possible denominator.
    Marc Fumaroli (b. 1932)

Life is a series of sensations connected to different states of consciousness.
    Rémy De Gourmont (1858–1915)

We are not prepared to believe that every private soldier in a Roman army had a name of his own,—because we have not supposed that he had a character of his own.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Life never again gets so simple.
    Frank Pittman (20th century)

    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
