Unconstructed State Routes in Arizona - State Route 48

State Route 48

State Route 48 is a proposed short highway running roughly northwest to southeast between State Route 89A and State Route 69 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. It is primarily intended as an eastern bypass around Prescott. The road is currently two lanes but there are plans to widen it to a divided 4 lane highway. It hasn't been added to the state highway system. From 1939-1945 Fain Road was the old road for State Route 179. There are some maps that still show Fain Rd as SR 179, but that is incorrect since the route number is already used as the main road to Sedona.

Famous quotes containing the words state and/or route:

It is said that he once had a sore toe that so annoyed him that he went to the woodpile and chopped it off with an axe, quoting the Scripture, ‘If thy foot offend thee, cut it off.’
—For the State of Rhode Island, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

A route differs from a road not only because it is solely intended for vehicles, but also because it is merely a line that connects one point with another. A route has no meaning in itself; its meaning derives entirely from the two points that it connects. A road is a tribute to space. Every stretch of road has meaning in itself and invites us to stop. A route is the triumphant devaluation of space, which thanks to it has been reduced to a mere obstacle to human movement and a waste of time.
    Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
