UK Online Centres

UK online centres is a UK-based organisation which helps communities tackle social and digital exclusion.

UK online centres coordinates a network of 3,800 community partners, who provide free or low-cost access to computers and the internet. The organisation also provide training and support to hundreds of volunteers, centre staff and community leaders, helping them to work within their own communities.

Over 1 million people have been helped to improve their skills through UK online centres to date, with many learners also going on to further learning and increased employment opportunities.

In 2011 the management of the UK online centres network was taken over by OCF, a staff-owned mutual and social enterprise formed by the Sheffield-based team previously managing the UK online centres contract on behalf of Ufi Ltd.

OCF Chief Executive, Helen Milner, was inducted into the BIMA Digital hall of Fame in 2012 alongside Sir Tim Berners Lee, Stephen Fry, and others noted for their work in the digital arena.

Famous quotes containing the word centres:

I perceive that in these woods the earliest settlements are, for various reasons, clustering about the lakes, but partly, I think, for the sake of the neighborhood as the oldest clearings. They are forest schools already established,—great centres of light.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
