Posey was born in Santa Monica, California, the son of Cyndi Garcia and actor John Posey. He lived in Valencia, California, and has two brothers, Jesse and Derek. His ancestry is Mexican on his mother's side, and Irish, English, and American Indian on his father's side. He attended Hart High School in Santa Clarita, California.
