After the flight crashed, the website of The New York Times had its traffic increase to one and one half million hits per day, an increase by half of its previous rate. In 1996 few U.S. government websites were updated daily; the United States Navy's website regarding the crash was constantly updated and had detailed information about the salvage of the crash site.
