TV Cultura was, as the first TV Station, founded in 1960, controlled by Diários Associados and Rede de Emissoras Associadas, owned by TV Tupi. In 1968, the São Paulo State Government bought TV Cultura from Associadas and reinaugurated them, donating the channel to Fundação Padre Anchieta ("Father Anchieta Foundation") in 1969. It is currently a private entity that has intellectual, political and administrative independence; the maintaining foundation receives budget from the private investors, responsible not only for TV Cultura, but also its two affiliated radio broadcasting channels, Rádio Cultura AM and Rádio Cultura FM.
