Turku Science Fiction Society

Turku Science Fiction Society (Finnish: Turun Science Fiction Seura ry), or TSFS, is the oldest science fiction society in Finland. It was founded in 1976. The society publishes its own semiprozine, called Spin. It maintains a club room at the University of Turku with several related societies.

the TSFS has been the main organiser of Finncon twice, in 1999 and in 2003. The 2003 event was also Eurocon and Baltcon.

Since 1983, the TSFS awards the annual Atorox Award for the best Finnish science fiction short story.

Famous quotes containing the words science, fiction and/or society:

May we not assure ourselves that whatever woman’s thought and study shall embrace will thereby receive a new inspiration, that she will save science from materialism, and art from a gross realism; that the “eternal womanly shall lead upward and onward”?
Louisa Parsons Hopkins, U.S. scientist and author. As quoted in The Fair Women, ch. 16, by Jeanne Madeline Weimann (1981)

Given that external reality is a fiction, the writer’s role is almost superfluous. He does not need to invent the fiction because it is already there.
    —J.G. (James Graham)

The web of domination has become the web of Reason itself, and this society is fatally entangled in it.
    Herbert Marcuse (1898–1979)
