Turkey Ponds

Turkey Pond and Little Turkey Pond are a connected pair of water bodies located in Merrimack County in central New Hampshire, in the city of Concord. The two ponds' elevations are controlled by a single dam at the outlet of Little Turkey Pond. The combined surface area of the two ponds is 339 acres (1.37 km2). The channel between the two ponds serves as the water course for the crew team for Saint Paul's School of Concord. Water from the Turkey Ponds flows via the Turkey River to the Merrimack River.

Famous quotes containing the words turkey and/or ponds:

A turkey is more occult and awful than all the angels and archangels. In so far as God has partly revealed to us an angelic world, he has partly told us what an angel means. But God has never told us what a turkey means. And if you go and stare at a live turkey for an hour or two, you will find by the end of it that the enigma has rather increased than diminished.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

I have been accustomed to make excursions to the ponds within ten miles of Concord, but latterly I have extended my excursions to the seashore.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
