History

Espérance used to be the harkis and Club Africain a club for nationalists. The Club Africain headquarters is located in bab jedid, an old area of the city of Tunis. Espérance headquarters is located 1 km from that of Club Africain, in bab souika, a very popular area. After the independence of Tunisia from France Club Africain became more popular among Tunisians. Espérance became the club of working class and used to be managed by politicians. Nowadays, both clubs have a similar amount of supporters and are considered the two largest clubs in Tunisia.
