Tufts University School of Dental Medicine - Curriculum

Curriculum

The curriculum of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) is a competency based curriculum. It has been designed and modified over the years to reflect the changing needs of the dental profession and public. The school’s primary mission is patient centered. The goal is to develop dental practitioners who are able to utilize the basic principles of human biology and human behavior in conjunction with their technical skills in diagnosing, treating, and preventing oral disease. The TUSDM graduate should be able to integrate knowledge across disciplines and perform procedures with patient well-being in mind. They should understand the importance of lifelong learning to continually improve their knowledge and skill base. The D.M.D. program, which extends over a four-year period, consists of a series of:

  1. didactic (lecture and seminar)
  2. patient simulation (patient simulation clinic, introductory clinical experience, and workshop)
  3. clinical (group practice, rotations and Community Service Learning Externship) experiences.

Famous quotes containing the word curriculum:

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
