Truro Cathedral - Bells

Bells

A peal of ten bells was cast in 1909 by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough: the tenor bell weighs 33-3-10. Four further bells, also cast by Taylor, were installed in 2011: two completing the original ring to twelve, and two smaller ones to give the option of a lighter sound. In addition there are six bells in the Green Tower, previously in St Mary's Parish Church, of which five form a chiming peal. A planned great bourdon bell for the south-west tower was never made.

Famous quotes containing the word bells:

    The bells, I say, the bells break down their tower;
    And swing I know not where.
    Hart Crane (1899–1932)

    Holinesse on the head,
    Light and perfections on the breast,
    Harmonious bells below, raising the dead
    To leade them unto life and rest.
    Thus are true Aarons drest.
    George Herbert (1593–1633)
