Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) - Popular Culture

Popular Culture

The building's planning and redesign led to publicity in local and national media both before and during its construction. For example, on September 19, 2007, the Trump International Hotel and Tower was featured on an episode of the Discovery Channel series Build It Bigger titled "High Risk Tower".

The final confrontation scene between Batman and The Joker in the 2008 film The Dark Knight was shot at the construction site of the then partially completed tower. The 2009 annual Countdown Chicago on ABC7, hosted by Mark Giangreco and Janet Davies was filmed on the roof of the hotel and in the Sixteen restaurant.

The tower was also one of the key locations filmed in Chicago for the 2011 film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The tower is the location where Dylan and Carly are staying during the film. During the climatic battle scenes, the tower is seen damaged due to the Decepticon invasion of Chicago.

Several local celebrities have purchased units in the building, including numerous professional athletes. Juwan Howard, Rex Grossman (who has put his unit on the market), and Patrick Kane are among the purchasers of Trump properties. Derrick Rose purchased a $2.8 million 3,102-square-foot (288.2 m2) condo in spring 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words popular culture, popular and/or culture:

Popular culture entered my life as Shirley Temple, who was exactly my age and wrote a letter in the newspapers telling how her mother fixed spinach for her, with lots of butter.... I was impressed by Shirley Temple as a little girl my age who had power: she could write a piece for the newspapers and have it printed in her own handwriting.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

    But popular rage,
Hysterica passio dragged this quarry down.
None shared our guilt; nor did we play a part
Upon a painted stage when we devoured his heart.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

There is something terribly wrong with a culture inebriated by noise and gregariousness.
    George Steiner (b. 1929)
