The game features an extensive 240-square-mile (620 km2) re-creation of a large part of Los Angeles, most of Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica with most street names, landmarks and highways. However, there are unmarked neighborhoods surrounding the game. The player cannot enter these parts of town, as an attempt will respawn Nick back onto the nearest street in the game. The game in general features many Los Angeles landmarks, such as the US Bank Tower, Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica Pier and Marina del Rey.

Famous quotes by los angeles:
“If Los Angeles has been called the capital of crackpots and the metropolis of isms, the native Angeleno can not fairly attribute all of the citys idiosyncrasies to the newcomerat least not so long as he consults the crystal ball for guidance in his business dealings and his wife goes shopping downtown in beach pajamas.”

“The freeway experience ... is the only secular communion Los Angeles has.... Actual participation requires a total surrender, a concentration so intense as to seem a kind of narcosis, a rapture-of-the-freeway. The mind goes clean. The rhythm takes over.”
—Joan Didion (b. 1935)

“Being blunt with your feelings is very American. In this big country, I can be as brash as New York, as hedonistic as Los Angeles, as sensuous as San Francisco, as brainy as Boston, as proper as Philadelphia, as brawny as Chicago, as warm as Palm Springs, as friendly as my adopted home town of Dallas, Fort Worth, and as peaceful as the inland waterway that rubs up against my former home in Virginia Beach.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“In the great department store of life, baseball is the toy department.”
—Los Angeles Sportscaster. quoted in Independent Magazine (London, Sept. 28, 1991)
