Due to their aggressive nature and vegetarian deity restrictions, these cichlids are often kept in groups of more than 10 in a single species tank. Tropheus duboisi cichlids are not exceedingly common; they can not be purchased at Petco. Aquariums stores occasional stock Tropheus duboisi or they may be ordered online and air-shipped to a local airport from a professional fish breeding site. As untraditional as this latter method sounds, it is often the most economical for individual wishing to acquire more than a dozen of these fish because local aquariums stores may charge $30 per fish.
