He is well known as the lead drummer with the multi-platinum Chicago.

Imboden's most notable studio session work has included Neil Diamond, Kenny Loggins, Firefall, Richard Marx, Steve Vai, Roger Daltrey and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The departure of Chicago's founding drummer, Danny Seraphine, allowed Imboden to join the band in time for their 1991 release titled Twenty 1. His tenure there has seen the release of twelve Chicago albums, occasionally featuring the harmonica. His drum set is now accompanied by veteran auxiliary percussionist Walfredo Reyes, Jr.
