Treherbert - Present Day

Present Day

During the early 21st century many of the notable buildings of 'old' Treherbert were demolished; including Treherbert Hospital, Treherbert Police Station, Dunraven School (Tynewydd), Blaencwm School, Blaenrhondda School, Penyrenglyn Infants and Junior School, Treherbert Infants School and Libanus Chapel.

The first Rhondda member for the Welsh Assembly was Treherbert born Geraint Davies. Treherbert is served by two county borough councillors sitting on Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC. They are Geraint Davies and Irene Pearce who are members of Plaid Cymru

Treherbert is also a designated Communities First ward as it is ranked within the top 10% most deprived areas according to the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. The Treherbert Communities First Partnership is known as CwmNi.

Businesses in Treherbert have also joined together to create the Treherbert Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Tourism. The group aims to help promote local business life whilst improving the community as a whole and increasing tourism to the Upper Rhondda with notable sites like PenPych Mountain.

Famous quotes related to present day:

The technological landscape of the present day has enfranchised its own electorates—the inhabitants of marketing zones in the consumer goods society, television audiences and news magazine readerships... vote with money at the cash counter rather than with the ballot paper at the polling booth.
