Traffic Operational Command Unit - Equipment and Vehicles

Equipment and Vehicles

Traffic OCU officers patrol both in cars and on motorcycles.

Cars used are the BMW 5 Series 530d tourer, Volvo V70 D5 Auto Estate and Mitsubishi Shogun 4x4. Each vehicle is fitted with a mobile data terminal with access to the Police National Computer, Automatic Number Plate Recognition and video systems. The current video tape recorders will be phased out during 2012 and replaced by a digital system, which will have a two extra cameras along with a new speed enforcement and ANPR system.

The current solo motorcycle used is the BMW 1200RT-P although some older 1150cc and 650cc models remain. Although motorcycles carry less equipment than cars, they are far more agile through traffic congestion and are essential for escorting convoys, processions and demonstrations.

Famous quotes containing the words equipment and/or vehicles:

Pop artists deal with the lowly trivia of possessions and equipment that the present generation is lugging along with it on its safari into the future.
    —J.G. (James Graham)

Television programming for children need not be saccharine or insipid in order to give to violence its proper balance in the scheme of things.... But as an endless diet for the sake of excitement and sensation in stories whose plots are vehicles for killing and torture and little more, it is not healthy for young children. Unfamiliar as yet with the full story of human response, they are being misled when they are offered perversion before they have fully learned what is sound.
    Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)
