Tourism Carrying Capacity - Physical Carrying Capacity

Physical Carrying Capacity

This is the maximum number of tourists that an area is actually able to support. In the case of an individual tourist attraction it is the maximum number that can fit on the site at any given time and still allow people to be able to move. This is normally assumed to be around 1m per person. “PCC per a day = area (in metres squared) x visitors per metre x daily duration" (Mowforth and Munt) This is a formula which has been used to calculate the physical carrying capacity.

Famous quotes containing the words physical, carrying and/or capacity:

Patience, that blending of moral courage with physical timidity.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)

The dog barks, the caravan passes on.
The words had a sort of bloom on them
But were weightless, carrying past what was being said.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

Becoming more flexible, open-minded, having a capacity to deal with change is a good thing. But it is far from the whole story. Grandparents, in the absence of the social institutions that once demanded civilized behavior, have their work cut out for them. Our grandchildren are hungry for our love and approval, but also for standards being set.
    Eda Le Shan (20th century)
