Tote Place
A Tote Place bet is still from one horse, as for a Tote Win, but the horse may come second, third or even fourth for the bet to win. Not every race qualifies for this type of bet. There must be a minimum of 5 horses in the field, the minimum stake is £2 and the following rules apply:
Number of runners | Dividend places |
---|---|
Up to 4 runners | Unavailable |
5, 6 or 7 runners | 1 - 2 |
8 - 15 runners in handicaps
8+ runners in non-handicaps |
1 - 2 - 3 |
16+ runners handicaps | 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 |

Famous quotes containing the words tote and/or place:
“The head must bow, and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the darkey may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow.
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, t will never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road:
Then my old Kentucky home, good-night!”
—Stephen Collins Foster (18261884)
“Events that are predestined require but little management. They manage themselves. They slip into place while we sleep, and suddenly we are aware that the thing we fear to attempt, is already accomplished.”
—Amelia E. Barr (18311919)
