Total Viable Count (TVC) gives a quantitative idea about the presence of microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast and mold in a sample. To be specific, the count actually represents the number of colony forming units (cfu) per g ( or per ml) of the sample.
A TVC is achieved by plating dilutions of the culture until 30-300 colonies exist on a single plate.
Famous quotes containing the words total and/or count:
“When I turned into a parent, I experienced a real and total personality change that slowly shifted back to the normal me, yet has not completely vanished. I believe the two levels are now superimposed, with an additional sprinkling of mortality intimations.”
—Sonia Taitz (20th century)
“In fact, of course, I hold that propositions that contemporary
philosophers would properly count as empirical can be necessary and be known to be such.”
—Saul Kripke (b. 1940)
