Toronto Athletic Club - Building

Building

The building is built in a "Richardsonian Romanesque" style favoured by Lennox. Its exterior is sandstone, a material that Lennox used in other buildings in Toronto such as the Old City Hall and the Legislative Building in Queen's Park nearby. An indoor pool was built in the basement. The building is approximately 4,000 square metres (43,000 sq ft) in size.

Famous quotes containing the word building:

The real dividing line between early childhood and middle childhood is not between the fifth year and the sixth year—it is more nearly when children are about seven or eight, moving on toward nine. Building the barrier at six has no psychological basis. It has come about only from the historic-economic-political fact that the age of six is when we provide schools for all.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

No: until I want the protection of Massachusetts to be extended to me in some distant Southern port, where my liberty is endangered, or until I am bent solely on building up an estate at home by peaceful enterprise, I can afford to refuse allegiance to Massachusetts, and her right to my property and life. It costs me less in every sense to incur the penalty of disobedience to the State than it would to obey. I should feel as if I were worth less in that case.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The mention of one apartment in a building naturally introduces an enquiry or discourse concerning the others: and if we think of a wound, we can scarcely forbear reflecting on the pain which follows it.
    David Hume (1711–1776)
