Tom Hull is an associate professor of mathematics at Western New England University and is known for his expertise in the mathematics of paper folding.

Prior to his appointment at Western New England, Hull taught at Merrimack College. He has also been teaching at the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics for many years: as junior staff from 1991 to 1995, and as senior staff in 1998 to 2007. He spent his undergraduate years at Hampshire College. Afterwards, Hull earned a MS and Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Rhode Island. His dissertation was in graph theory. Since graduating, he has been working on research problems in origami-math and teaching origami-math classes.

Hull recently wrote a book on using origami to teach math. He has co-authored two non-math origami books: Origami, Plain and Simple and Russian Origami, and he is on the Board of Directors of OrigamiUSA (a national non-profit arts organization). He is also featured in the 2010 Independent Lens documentary Between the Folds.

Famous quotes containing the word tom:

And the Angel told Tom if he’d be a good boy,
He’d have God for his father & never want joy.

And so Tom awoke and we rose in the dark
And got with our bags & our brushes to work.
Tho’ the morning was cold, Tom was happy & warm,
So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm.
    William Blake (1757–1827)
