Tody Smith - High School Career

High School Career

Smith was a prep All-American at Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont, Texas, where he played for his father W.R. Smith.

Smith acquired his nickname in a junior high school Spanish class. Apparently Tody came from toro (bull), because he was the largest boy in his class.

Famous quotes containing the words high, school and/or career:

When I was in high school I thought a vocation was a particular calling. Here’s a voice: “Come, follow me.” My idea of a calling now is not: “Come.” It’s like what I’m doing right now, not what I’m going to be. Life is a calling.
    Rebecca Sweeney (b. 1938)

In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then He made School Boards.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
