Drug Suspension
One of Pletcher's horses was found to have an anesthetic, mepivicaine, on August 14, 2004. Mepivicaine can numb pain in horses. For the positive test, Pletcher was given a 45 day suspension from training at any thoroughbred track in the United States. Pletcher was also fined $3,000 and the purse money was redistributed. Pletcher appealed the suspension, based on the fact that the mepivicaine was administered by a veterinarian who was treating the horse with an antibiotic two weeks prior to race but it was upheld.

Famous quotes containing the words drug and/or suspension:
“If an addict who has been completely cured starts smoking again he no longer experiences the discomfort of his first addiction. There exists, therefore, outside alkaloids and habit, a sense for opium, an intangible habit which lives on, despite the recasting of the organism.... The dead drug leaves a ghost behind. At certain hours it haunts the house.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
“There are two kinds of liberalism. A liberalism which is always, subterraneously authoritative and paternalistic, on the side of ones good conscience. And then there is a liberalism which is more ethical than political; one would have to find another name for this. Something like a profound suspension of judgment.”
—Roland Barthes (19151980)
