Tiscali - History

History

Tiscali was created in January 1998 in Cagliari by Renato Soru, following the deregulation of Italian telephone. The company owes its name to the mountain in Sardinia, where there are the remains of a nuragic village dating from the sixth to fourth centuries BC. Since March 1999, Tiscali offered free access to the Internet(people still had to pay the time), called Tiscali Free Net, pushing that time all Italian providers to repeal the fixed subscription of about 200,000 lire a year, thus contributing to the spread of mass in Italy the Internet.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Certainly there is not the fight recorded in Concord history, at least, if in the history of America, that will bear a moment’s comparison with this, whether for the numbers engaged in it, or for the patriotism and heroism displayed.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Jesus Christ belonged to the true race of the prophets. He saw with an open eye the mystery of the soul. Drawn by its severe harmony, ravished with its beauty, he lived in it, and had his being there. Alone in all history he estimated the greatness of man.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men, real, living, who do all this.... It is not “history” which uses men as a means of achieving—as if it were an individual person—its own ends. History is nothing but the activity of men in pursuit of their ends.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
