Climate

The climate of Tirunelveli is generally hot and humid. The average temperature during summer (March to June) ranges from 25 to 41° Celsius and 18 to 29°C during the rest of the year. The average annual rainfall is 680 mm, most of which occurs during the northeast monsoon (October–December). Since the economy of the district is primarily based on agriculture, fluctuations in the monsoon rains or flooding of the Thamarabarani river has an immediate impact of livelihood in the area.
