Timewyrm: Revelation - Continuity

Continuity

  • Ace recalls meeting rock star Johnny Chess, who is a recurring minor character in the Doctor Who novels. His "real" name is John Chesterton, and he is the son of former companions Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright. Later novels state that he marries then divorces Tegan Jovanka.
  • Pg 1 "'But if it wasn't for the snow, how could we believe in the immortality of the soul?' 'What an interesting question, Mr Wilde. But tell me exactly what you mean.' 'I haven't the slightest idea.'" At the end of Human Nature the Seventh Doctor recapitulates this quotation, sort of bookending Paul Cornell's "seasons" cycle of New Adventures.
  • Pg 1 "They say that no two snowflakes are the same. But nobody ever stops to check. Above the Academy blew great billows of them, whipping around the corners of the dark building as if to emphasize the structure's harsh lines" This is very similar to the opening sentence of The Infinity Doctors
  • Pg 1 "Mount Cadon, Gallifrey's highest peak, extended to the fringes of the planet's atmosphere, and the Prydonian Academy stood far up its slopes." Mount Cadon is mentioned in The Infinity Doctors.

Famous quotes containing the word continuity:

Only the family, society’s smallest unit, can change and yet maintain enough continuity to rear children who will not be “strangers in a strange land,” who will be rooted firmly enough to grow and adapt.
    Salvador Minuchin (20th century)

Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under men’s reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

If you associate enough with older people who do enjoy their lives, who are not stored away in any golden ghettos, you will gain a sense of continuity and of the possibility for a full life.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)
