- 20 March - A mobile patrol of permanent cadre 10 UDR spotted a stolen car in Belfast city centre and gave chase. When the car reached the Lower Falls area the patrol opened fire on it, causing it to crash. One person escaped from the car but another was caught and Patrick McNally aged 20 was found wounded in the back seat. He was dead on arrival at hospital.
