Religious Conflict

Tikkana was born in Guntur. There is a school and library named after him. It is maintained by a committee headed by Machiraju Sitapati and Kurakula Guraviah, an ex-corporator. Recently they celebrated 100 years of the library's functioning. During the Shiva Kavi period (see Shivakavi Trayamu, the Trinity of Shaivite Poets), the new religions Shaivism and Vaishnavism were spreading in Andhra, resulting in conflict between these two groups as well as between the two established religious groups, Buddhism and Jainism. At this juncture, Tikkana attempted to bring peace between the warring Shivaites and Vaishnavites.

Famous quotes containing the words religious and/or conflict:

Our aversion to lying is commonly a secret ambition to make what we say considerable, and have every word received with a religious respect.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

When a mother quarrels with a daughter, she has a double dose of unhappiness—hers from the conflict, and empathy with her daughter’s from the conflict with her. Throughout her life a mother retains this special need to maintain a good relationship with her daughter.
    Terri Apter (20th century)
