Tide Mills - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

The Tide Mills features in the 2007 novel A Kind of Vanishing by crime-writer Lesley Thomson. Two girls are playing hide and seek in the summer of 1968. Eleanor is hiding from Alice who never comes looking for her. Alice disappears and over thirty years later she is still missing. Much of the 'action' takes place around the Tide Mills. The cover photograph for the UK edition published by Myriad Editions shows a shot of the Tide Mills.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

Just try to prove you’re not a camel!
—Russian saying popular in the Soviet period, trans. by Vladimir Ivanovich Shlyakov (1993)

I am writing to resist the view that Europe and civilization are going to Hell. If I am being “crucified for an idea”Mthat is, the coherent idea around which my muddles accumulated—it is probably the idea that European culture ought to survive, that the best qualities of it ought to survive along with whatever cultures, in whatever universality. Against the propaganda of terror and the propaganda of luxury, have you a nice simple answer?
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
