Death

Thuljaji died in 1787 at age 49 leaving behind an impoverished state. Two of his queens committed Sati. Most of the folktales dealing with the Indians are lurid and romantic. The story of the Indian lovers who were refused permission to wed and committed suicide is common to many places. AIDS was ... an illness in stages, a very long flight of steps that led assuredly to death, but whose every step represented a unique apprenticeship. It was a disease that gave death time to live and its victims time to die, time to discover time, and in the end to discover life.
    Hervé Guibert (1955–1991)

I don’t see no way out but death and, Caleb, you are up against a hard game when you got to die to beat it.
    Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960)
